Artist selection process

  • Artists to be selected by a panel of library leaders and contacted for immediate project kickoff
  • Commissions may range from $250 - $2,000 per element
  • One or several awards may be granted per applicant. No more than three awards will be granted per applicant.
  • Selection of artists and next steps in developing the artwork and installation details for interactive educational elements contingent on art and educational element cost and available funding.

Artist selection criteria

  • Final "canvas selections" depend on results of cost efforts.
  • Artist selection will be dependent on evaluation of appropriateness of an artist's
    • Experience with content (themes)
    • Graphic style for content (themes)
  • Artist will meet one or more of the following criteria:
    • Local (tri-county area) or local affiliation
    • Artists inspired by Biology or other Sciences
    • Artists inspired by history or portraiture

Submission requirements

  • Artist is available to work on this project from November 2019 - January 2020
  • 250-500 words - Artist Biography
  • 250-500 words - Statement of Interest
  • 3-10 images showing:
    • experience illustrating themes
    • graphic styles
  • (if available) - 200- 500 words - Experience working on the Backyard Concept and/or Themes :
  • (if available) - Artist CV
