Quick-start:

1. ​Download and install the Libby app to a compatible device, or launch libbyapp.com in your web browser.
2. Click the center bottom menu picture, and then look for "Add Library." Type in the zip code '93901' and all local libraries will pop up. Select 'Salinas Public Library.'
3. Select "Sign in with my Card." Enter in your library card number (no spaces), and then click next.
4. Enter in your PIN, and then click next. 
5. It should say you are successfully signed in! Click next and then a pop-up will ask "Do you prefer to read with Kindle?'
   1. If you would prefer to read with your Kindle eReader or the Kindle app, select 'Yes, I Read With Kindle.'
   2. If not, click 'Skip.'

FAQ

1. I don't have a library card yet, how can I get one?
   1. Come in-person to one of our SPL branches and staff will happily assist you making a free library card. Click here to learn more about what to bring.
      1. Can't come in-person right now? Click here to see if you qualify for a Digital Access or Homebound library card. If you do, you can apply there now!
2. I've forgotten my PIN. How can I reset it?
   1. SPL's PIN #s are usually the last four digits of the phone number provided at account creation. If you would still like to reset your PIN, click here, or if you're trying to login on Libby, sign in until you can select "Forgot my PIN."
3. Can I read my books on my Kindle eReader?
   1. Yes, many of Libby's ebooks are compatible with the Kindle eReader & Kindle App. Compatible ebooks will be clearly marked before check out as 'Read with Kindle.'
      1. When you sign-in on Libby for the first time, it should ask you if you prefer reading with your Kindle eReader/app. But if it doesn't, you can click back to the center menu option and scroll down until under settings, you find 'Read Books With.' Click here and then tell Libby you prefer to read with Kindle.
4. I have checked out a book that says it is compatible with Kindle. How do I get it onto my Kindle now?
   1. You're very close to successfully reading one of your checkouts on your Kindle! Eligible books will automatically say 'Read with Kindle.' Click on that and your device should re-route you to input your Amazon / Kindle login information. Once you sign in, it will ask if you are sure you would like to check out the library book on your Kindle. Click confirm and it should start uploading the title to your Kindle account.
      1. Note: Make sure your kindle is on and connected to wi-fi. Please allow 3-5min for your Kindle eReader to successfully sync your new checkout.
